EROSION & SEDIMENT CONTROL

WHAT IS EROSION?         The wearing down of ground which occurs when exposed ground shifts due to the effects of wind, water, land development, natural disasters and other reasons.

WHAT IS SEDIMENT?         Is a naturally occurring material that is broken down by processes of weathering and erosion, and is subsequently transported by the action of wind, water, or ice or by the force of gravity acting on the particles.

WHAT IS EROSION & SEDIMENT CONTROL?          The implementation of land management techniques for preventing or controlling exposed ground shifts caused by wind, water, land development, natural disasters and other reasons.

WHAT IS IT’S PURPOSE?                 To control and manage surface runoff, prevent water pollution, reduce soil loss, protect wildlife habitats and human property loss from the effects of exposed ground shifting caused by wind, water, land development, natural disasters and other reasons.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?        Regrettably, there is “NO” set price due to several key factors (Variables) that will affect the final amount you can expect to pay. The key factors needed to be considered will include:

  • Location (Where is the job located)

  • Size of Project (In acres/hectares or square feet/ square meters)

  • Installation Conditions (Slope and/or Grade)

  • Accessibility Conditions (Roadside or Limited/Restricted)

  • Materials Required (ECB, TRM, SID, Rip Rap etc.)

WHERE DO I USE IT?     Erosion and sediment controls are used in natural areas, agricultural settings or urban environments. In urban areas erosion controls are often part of stormwater runoff management programs required by local governments and may also involve building and maintaining storm drains.

WHO DETERMINES THE REQUIREMENT?     To avoid dangerous environmental problems and costly fines the local government legislation and/or the approved site management plan determine what erosion and sediment controls are required based on the scope of each and every project. Unfortunately, there is no “ONE SIZE FITS ALL” solution.

HOW IS IT CONTROLLED?              It is controlled by creating a of physical barrier or barriers being either temporary or permanent to absorb some of the energy of the wind or water that is causing the exposed soil to erode.

HOW IS IT INSTALLED?     It must be installed over properly prepared ground as specified by local government legislation and/or the approved site management plan.

WILL IT WASH AWAY?     If it has been installed as specified by local government legislation and/or the approved site management plan it should not wash away after the installation under normal weather conditions.
